VDC assists VR upgrade on Derren Brown’s Ghost Train

Derren Brown’s Ghost Train: Rise of the Demon at Thorpe Park, Surrey, UK, has recently undergone a terrifying revamp to provide more scares to riders than ever before.

The ride, a world first, is a completely immersive, multi-sensory experience that is designed to terrify the rider. It takes place inside a replica London Underground train with guests wearing VR headsets, and combines VR technology with live action and multi-media show scenes.

Thorpe Park enlisted the help of AV cabling specialist VDC Training to assist with the VR upgrade, as sections of the ride had to be adapted to make the experience fully immersive.

VDC replaced the existing cabling with an easy to install, custom created cabling solution, and also ensured that the VR headsets were in full working order.

Illusionist Derren Brown says: “Visitors to the Ghost Train will experience a heart stopping combination of next generation technology, grand illusion, live action and special-effects completed unlike anything they will have ever seen before.”

Brown adds: “We are making this bigger, better and scarier than last year. The changes and improvements that have taken place will scare the sh*t out of guests.”

Dominic Jones, divisional director at Thorpe Park Resort, says: “This is a dark attraction that will satisfy the nation’s desire to be scared, which in turn boosts adrenaline and heightens senses.”

Jones continues: “Rise of the Demon is a smorgasbord of all the fun elements from rides and experiences fused together - scare actors, illusion, ride movement, virtual reality and special effects. Each component is bespoke built - this is a world’s first, an original creation.”

Since its reopening the attraction has been received with very positive feedback.
